Thanks sarah,

I agree it makes little sense to be cutting this course with the growth of performing arts on the waterfront. I am raising with UCS and will let you know when i have some answers.

Good evening Kevan, At the Suffolk College Question time last night, you said you would find out why the new university has cut the MA in Performing Arts. New students had applied and there is time to get more. Staff are being sacked, the currant 1st and 2nd year students are going to finish their degree with one member of staff--really not adequate for a performing arts degree which should teach dance, drama as well theater history and theory. I think performing arts matters because it's a transferable skill. We use performance art a lot in youth work: getting new young graduates to work with disadvantaged young people is often a really good way to help them engage and teach all sorts of communication and expression skills. And there are four theaters in Ipswich which the new venue on the docks. It's an expensive course to run but I think it's really important the university rethinks this one. Please see if you have any influence.
Yours sincerely, Sarah Matthews
